This Hallberg-Rassy 53 is a German Frers-designed sloop with cutter rig (permanent hydraulic furling cutter stayadded 2009), built in 1994 as hull number 4 by the prestigious Hallberg-Rassy boat yard in Ellös, Sweden, known for its exacting standards of quality and safety. She is in an exceptional condition after minor refits in 2009 and 2010 and a major refit in 2013/2014 (a.o. new teak deck, new standing and running rigging, complete overhaul of the mast, servicing by Seldén of all hydraulic furlers, replacement andnew lay-out of all switches of the pedestal, replacement and redesign of the radar/antenna post, replacement of rudderstock bearings and seals, replacement of most bronze skin fittings and ball valves, replacement of most deck fittings, replacement of all dorade vents, stripping and re-varnishing of external teak panels, painting of blue striping on hull). She is formally registered in the Netherlands, EU VAT is paid and she is now available for sale. Her present owners sailed her in 6 years from Europe through the Pacific to SE Asia and have decided to let her go in the course of this year to pursue other interests. She is a well-performing, safe and very comfortable blue water cruiser with all amenities on board, and with her push button sailing very well suited for a small crew. Just having circumnavigated three quarters of the globe, in her actual state she truly is fully equipped for long ocean passages.

    The hull under the waterline was stripped down to the gelcoat in 2010 and rebuilt with seven coats of International Interprotect 2000 shingled epoxy primer and three coats of International Micron 66 antifouling. Distinctive HR blue stripe above the rubbing strake and the blue double line just above the waterline repainted with Awlgrip in 2014.

    All upholstery was replaced in 2009 by Sunbrella interior fabric, with new two-layered foam (soft top layer on sturdier bottom layer). All six mattresses were replaced in 2009 by Neptune Talalay latex mattresses (150 mm thick in fore and aft cabin, 120 mm thick in side cabin) with pressure-adjustable slats under each mattress on unvarnished perforated boards for exceptional ventilation and no condensation. Curtains of all portholes and skylights replaced in 2014, except for skylight in aft cabin, which is fitted with a shade/mosquito skyscreen.
